Filter to Headline Hartford Block Party

Okay, they aren’t a jam band, but I had to share this nugget on one of my favorite 90′s bands, Filter.

Richard Patrick and company are releasing their latest album, The Trouble With Angels, the week of this August 20 show. I’ve had the pleasure of listening to the album a few times, and while it certainly doesn’t live up to classic Filter, it’s much better than the faulty Anthems for the Damned album that marked Filter’s return to music a few years ago.

But on to the good news: Filter will be headlining the August edition of Hartford’s monthly summer block parties, much like they did a few years ago when Anthems hit stores.

These block parties aren’t amazing (I went to one earlier this summer — overpriced and undersized beer, bad music, etc.), but with Filter playing things will surely be kicked up a notch. The event is held at the corner of Union Place and Allyn Street.

Hopefully admission is free before a certain time, just like it was in May.

Sunday is highlighted by a Damian Marley & Nas’ hour and a half set that has them following reggae legend Jimmy Cliff.

Vibes Goes Furthur

The big Friday night headliner announcement has come and gone and has put all doubt aside: Gathering of the Vibes has Furthur.

Furthur, a Grateful Dead “spin-off” band, has been a hot band on the scene as of late. Former Dead members Bob Weir and Phil Lesh, along with “fake Jerry” John Kadlecik, Jeff Chimenti and Joe Russo will play a four hour Friday night set at Gathering of the Vibes on July 30.

The band has ties to performers on Thusday and Friday as well. Kadlecik left Dark Star Orchestra, a Grateful Dead recreation band, for Furthur. DSO is set to play Thursday. On Friday, the revamped and reformed Primus will be headling. The Les Claypool-led band features original Primus member Jay Lane on drums. Up until Primus announced its return, Lane was playing with Furthur.

Tickets for the festival, both weekend passes and single day passes, are on sale now.

Phish 3D Gets an Extension

Phish 3D has officially been extended in select cities, including at two theaters in Connecticut.

Both Buckland Hills 18 in Manchester and Connecticut Post 14 in Milford will be running the film for at least another week.

This gives fans that haven’t already gone and seen the film a second life, as well as an opportunity for the most hardcore of fans a chance to check  it out again.

You can read my thoughts on Phish 3D in my review.

Phish 3D Out of Seymour, Into Trumbull

The latest theatre search on Phish3Dmovie.com brings a few changes to the table when it comes to what theaters Phish 3D will be playing at.

No longer listed is Seymour Cinema in Seymour. Added to the list is Bow Tie Marquis 16 in Trumbull.

Still of interest is the fact that tickets are still not on sale for the Mansfield theatre – at least when you search on Fandango.

But fans can still preorder tickets for the three other theaters, including Showcase Cinemas Buckland Hills 18Connecticut Post 14 Cinema de Lux (Milford) and the newly added Bow Tie Marquis 16 (Trumbull).

Phish 3D opens this Friday and will be a very exclusive engagement. To give fans a taste, they’ve uploaded a few more clips of footage to be featured in the film.

Check out “Loving Clup” from the band’s Exile on Main Street cover set:
