It looks like I was wrong about Showcase Cinemas Buckland Hills being cheaper.
Tickets went on sale this weekend for the April 30 release of Phish 3D and prices remain at an elevated $15. I’m still going to go, but I’ll have a hard time grasping the concept of paying more for a Phish film than I did for something as gigantic as Avatar.
Here are links to the 7:30 and 10:30 showings on April 30. It seems that at least for now the film will be playing the entire week. They are saying it is a limited engagement, I’m just not sure if it’s as limited as one week.
Mansfield Movieplex 8 in Mansfield, Conn. has been added to the list of locations in Connecticut, making it a grand total of four cinemas carrying the film in CT.
Ticket prices have only been announced for the Milford theater and go for $15, which seems kind of pricey to me when I take into account that I paid less to see Avatar.
I have heard that prices are not universal, so it seems to be on a theater-by-theater basis. I’ll be seeing this film at Buckland Hills, whose ticket prices for a 3D film like this usually hit around $12, only a few bucks more than a normal film.
In addition to the state’s first ticket pricing details, the run time of the film has also been revealed. It sits at 2 hours and 20 minutes.
It wasn’t entirely known to fans whether Phish 3D, set to be released on April 30, would be a wide or small release, but it seems any fear that the film wouldn’t be hitting certain markets have been alleviated after today’s revealing of what markets the concert film will hit.
The film, which captures the band’s eight sets over the course of Festival 8, their 2009 Halloween weekend festival, is set to be pre-screened at a limited number of theaters on 4/20. 10 days later the film will open nationwide.
Of the markets revealed is Hartford. A quick search on phish3dmovie.com shows three theaters listed thus far, those being Showcase Cinemas Buckland Hills in Manchester, Seymour Cinema in Seymour and Connecticut Post 14 Cinema de Lux in Milford. Whether more theaters will be added to this list is not yet known.
The festival included a very special acoustic afternoon performance from the band and the complete covering of the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main Street.
Update: According to a report published on Businesswire.com, tickets for Phish 3D will go on sale today, April 14. No ticket information is available for the Connecticut showings quite yet, as both phish3dmovie.com and nationalamusements.com are vacant of ticket information.
Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey has made their presence known in Connecticut a number of times, and when they return they will have yet another new look to show off.
JFJO has transformed and morphed over the years, most drastically with the departure of bassist Reed Mathis who went on to join Tea Leaf Green.
Now JFJO announces the addition of Jeff Harshbarger to the band as double bassist. Harshbarger has played with musicians such as Bobby Watson, Curtis Fuller, Mike Dillon and Mark Southerland.
“Continuing in the jazz tradition of change, we are happy to welcome Jeff Harshbarger as our new double bassist,” said a press release on JFJO.com “Residing in Kansas City Harshbarger is a prolific composer and bandleader in his own right, and has recorded and performed across the globe with a variety of musicians.”
This addition comes with subtraction, as upright bassist Matt Hayes will be leaving the group after 15 months.
The first chance for fans to see Harshbarger is April 17.
JFJO has a few scheduled New England appearances this summer to celebrate their 20th album Stay Gold, but nothing yet scheduled for Connecticut. Stay tuned.

Crimson, White and Indigo, the new concert film to be released on DVD, has been scheduled for a few pre-screenings prior to the release of the DVD/CD combo on April 20 release date.
The concert featured is the July 7, 1989 show at JFK Stadium. It would turn out to be the final rock concert at that venue.
In New England, fans can check out the concert film at a few venues (sadly there are no CT screenings).
